We heard about some pretty amazing March Breaks today... swimming with sharks, spinning through the air on skis and someone saw a bobcat! Nice to get back into the 'routine' of school. Walking Competition Underway!
Big White Community School has begun a promotion to see who will walk the most over one week. Over the next three weeks students will take good care of a GPS receiver that records both their position and speed. From that data we will be able to tell who is walking and/or skiing/boarding the most. Good luck everyone!

Happy Valentines Day! Poems Published!
After some serious work all morning... We celebrated Valentines Day with some fun activities and a catered party! Thank you parents!
Also... we have recently completed a study of figurative language! As a fun way to share our poetry we devoted some time in creating mini-movies in 'Stikz' format. We hope you enjoy these 'Love Poems' as much as we did making them!
BTW: Listen for examples of simile, metaphor, alliteration, onomatopoeia, personification, hyperbole and understatement!

We have certainly had some adjustments in the last couple weeks... 6 new students, regular skating/hockey/skiing/snowboarding lessons, and now... a SMARTBoard! Mr. Bond has struggled to update this blog in a timely manner but those days should be over thanks to the hiring of some new staff in the classroom.

Today we did some dirty work... literally! The worms working to turn our kitchen garbage into awesome compost had too many un-welcome visitors. MITES! Some are okay but too many make a good worm angry...
First we find the suffering worms...
then we gave them a bath to make sure no mites are piggybacking...
then we prepare the fancy clean new bin with nice hand shredded cardboard...
and finally we add the lucky 38 worms!
Paradise?
| Two bins now: "Mite Free" and "MITES 'R' US" (Hopefully any worms left over in the latter will still survive!)

Welcome Back!
So nice to be back in school today! The break was well deserved for our star performers. The 'North Pole Exposure' play was well received and the pot luck that followed was super tasty. Thank you parents for the work you put in preparing props, food and moving loads of stuff, fire fighters for your generous volunteer work, Ms. Ruzicka and Mrs. Turner for your support and students for your amazing effort. We are already missing our friends Cole and Carmen who are now in India. We will stay in touch and you will be able to read what they are up to in our next Big White Out. As we say goodbye we say hello to two new students today: Evan and Adam. Welcome boys! While printed and distributed at the concert, the December Issue of the Big White Out was never published online. The editor sends his regrets. Please enjoy the publication in full screen!

Long time no blog...
Hello World!
Long time no blog. We have had lots and lots going on... so much effort for one day (Dec. 15th) it just doesn't seem fair to the other days! While regular school has been going we have much to report.
First, congratulations to Cole for winning the school Logo contest. His design successfully captures the essence of our school.
Also, congratulations to Alexandra for earning over 67000 grains of rice for hungry people in Cambodia. As a class we earned over 125000 grains of rice for the month of November and finished in 8th place in Canada as part of the Canadian Free Rice School Challenge. Thank you to those who helped us out! (My Mom, f1regirl, whyard, My Dad, maleys, gordonspear, ms.liebel, Supermomandson, jephiner, puppilicious1) I am not sure exactly who everyone is so please tell me so I can thank you in person! (I know f1regirl, Gord, Ms. Liebel and of course Mom and Dad) Keep playing for fun and to feed the world :)
We went for our first snowshoeing adventure last week! It was a cold, windy day but everyone put on a brave face and nobody complained. Good show!
Mr. Bond missed school on Thursday to learn about teaching parts of our courses online. Already this week some of our seniors have begun using the expertly prepared units from BC Learning Network. Mr. Bond is very excited to use this service regularly.
We also have dozens of new class pets! They work in damp, dark conditions, eat garbage and will guide us in much of our studies for the rest of the year... can you guess what or who they are? If you said "Red Wigglers" then well done! Currently we are accepting applications for a 'Worm Master' and cover letters will be accepted until Thursday. Duties will involve meticulous measuring and sorting of worm food, water and other living conditions. Applicants should be responsible, thoughtful and not mind stinky smells!
